Woman in Critical Condition After Being Pulled from Cass Lake in Waterford
(OCSO, July 2, 2025)
Waterford, MI – A 74-year-old Detroit woman is in critical condition after she was discovered floating face down and unconscious when she was pulled from Cass Lake yesterday.
The woman, whose name is not being released, was apparently swimming shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday near the beach in Dodge #4 State Park in Waterford Township.
Bystanders told Waterford Township police the woman was swimming in four feet of water for a short time, and they believed she was snorkeling. When bystanders realized she was not moving and she had no snorkeling equipment on, they quickly removed the woman from the water.
“This is a very tragic reminder that anytime someone is in the water, regardless of the depth, it can be life-threatening, and we should watch out after each other,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We have seen children drowned in a pool surrounded by adults because it happens in seconds.”
Paramedics from the Waterford Township Fire Department who responded to the scene began CPR and the woman was taken to the hospital. The incident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team.
