Oakland Thrive Restaurant Quest: Sayulita in Downtown Milford

Milford, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with a visit to Downtown Milford for some delicious Mexican food from Sayulita Cocina Mexicana. This brightly-decorated restaurant offers up recipes reminiscent of a the small ocean-side town west of Guadalajara.
The menu is full of south of the border favorites and unique dishes.
Upon sitting at a table adorned with taro cards and the face of a calavera, I was greeted with chips and salsa that were a great start to the meal.
For my visit, I had the Pollo Jalisco, which is perfectly seasoned and grilled chicken breast with sauteed onions and mushrooms, topped with melted cheese, served with rice and beans. The hearty portion and quality ingredients were impressive. The low cost was a delightful surprise as well.
The menu is packed with choices, including the Vampiros – a trio of steak, shrimp, and cheese tacos topped with mango pico, avocado salsa, and elote.
The staples are all there, like tacos, burritos, fajitas, and nachos.
Plus there are fun choices like the Lobster Quesadilla, Habanero Nachos, and Asada Fries. Sayulita also serves up Adobo Swordfish Tacos complete with cabbage, pico, and cilantro lime crema.
This popular downtown hot spot also has a bar with swings for seats and a grass hut feel. They feature a variety of specialty cocktails like the Mango Zombie, the Papi Chulo Caiprirnha, and the Sayulita Colada. There are also Margaritas like the La Chica Sexey, the El Sancho, and the Ay Papi.
There are booths and tables inside surrounded by colorful murals, plus a patio out back for outdoor seating. Takeout is also available, and there is free parking in the back.
