June 29 – Jazz Ambassadors of US Army Field Band to Perform in Birmingham’s Shain Park
Birmingham, MI – The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army Field Band will perform a free outdoor concert on Sunday, June 29 at 6 p.m. in the City of Birmingham, Mich.’s Shain Park.
The Jazz Ambassadors is the official touring big band of the United States Army. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble has received great acclaim at home and abroad performing America’s greatest original art form, jazz.
Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are programmed to entertain all types of audiences. The band’s diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, traditional New Orleans jazz, vocals, and patriotic selections, many of which are written or arranged by Jazz Ambassadors members.
The Jazz Ambassadors’ 75-minute multimedia performance is a special addition to Birmingham’s In The Park Summer Concert Series, which presents free family-friendly outdoor concerts every Wednesday evening from June 13 through Aug. 27 in Shain Park. All concerts take place in the Thomas M. Markus Pavilion on Shain Park’s south end, between Henrietta and Bates streets and Merrill and Townsend streets in downtown Birmingham. Nearby parking is available at the Chester Street and Pierce Street municipal parking structures, where the first two hours are always free.
“Jazz Ambassador performances consistently attract large audiences, so get there early with your chairs or blankets to secure a good spot on the lawn,” says Birmingham Parks and Recreation Manager Carrie Laird.
