Suspect in Shooting Outside Orchid Theatre in Ferndale Arrested

Ferndale, MI – On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Ferndale Police Officers were conducting a foot patrol in the downtown area when they heard multiple gunshots fired in the Woodward alley between Nine Mile and West Troy Street. Within moments, officers located a 29-year-old male victim from Warren near the rear entrance of the Orchid Theatre at 141 W. Nine Mile Road.
The man had suffered a single gunshot wound to the groin area.
Officers administered lifesaving first aid until Ferndale Fire and Rescue arrived. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and has since been released.
Investigators determined that the victim had been standing in the patio area of the Orchid Theatre just prior to the shooting. A vehicle approached the patio, and the victim walked toward the suspect vehicle. Investigators believe an exchange took place between the victim and the occupant of the vehicle, during which the suspect fired multiple shots, striking the victim.
Utilizing investigative tools, including Flock Safety cameras, investigators identified the suspect as Coreyontai Deshawn Rmon Hammonds, a 29-year-old resident of Redford.
On May 23, 2025,Ferndale Police took the suspect into custody without incident with the assistance of the FBI’s Oakland County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force. Investigators also determined this was a targeted incident involving individuals who knew each other. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
On May 23, 2025 Hammonds was arraigned by 43rd District Court Magistrate Brennan on the following charges:
▪ Assault – With intent to Murder, 1 Count, Felony
▪ Weapons – Firearm, 3 Counts, Felony
Hammonds was given a $500,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear next on June 2, 2025 at 1 p.m.
