(C.J. Carnacchio, Oxford Township, May 21, 2025)
Oxford, MI –
Earlier tonight, Paul Schapira was appointed to the vacant seat on the Oxford Township Board of Trustees. He fills the trustee position previously occupied by Jeffrey Omtvedt, who resigned in April. Trustee Schapira will serve until the Nov. 3, 2026 midterm election.
“I want to make a difference,” he told the board during his interview. “I want to bring this community together more and more. I think we need more unity.”
Trustee Schapira plans to be an active board member and take the position “very seriously.”
“When I dive in, I dive in fully and you get 100 percent of me . . . If I agree to do something, I’m going to do it. Getting a board seat is not just about occupying a space . . . For me, it’s an honor that is bestowed upon you and you have to treat it that way.”
Trustee Schapira has called Oxford home since 2020.
“One of the things that I really enjoy and love is the hometown feel of Oxford Township,” he said. “And I think preserving that is so important.”
“I’ve embraced this community and I can’t see going anywhere else in my lifetime,” he added.
Trustee Schapira has almost 35 years of experience in the finance industry. His roles have included commercial lender, private equity investor and turnaround consultant. He’s the founder and owner of Genesis Capital Advisors in Oxford.
Outside of work, he volunteers with Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance’s Wildcat Cub Club, a program that connects adult mentors with elementary school students. “I mentor a student every Thursday,” he said.
Trustee Schapira is married to Patricia Schapira, executive director of the nonprofit Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) of North Oakland County.
A big “thank you” to the other applicants who interviewed for the trustee seat – Emily C. Busch, Patti Durr, Allison Gorman and James N. Lopiccolo. Your willingness to serve your community is greatly appreciated.
