Woman Arrested for Driving into Apartment, Children in Home at the Time are Safe

Pontiac, MI – Three Pontiac children narrowly escaped serious injury early Saturday morning when the driver of a pickup truck apparently lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the apartment living room the children were occupying.
The incident happened at about 12:20 a.m. on Saturday at an apartment on Firelite near Cherry Hill Drive in Pontiac.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the location on the report of the crash and the driver of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado running away from the crash while carrying her dog.
The three children, two 10-year-old boys and a 13-year-old girl, had just gone to their apartment minutes before the crash to pick up some personal belongings and were planning to return to the babysitter’s residence across the street when the crash happened. The children had to break out an adjacent window and climb through it to get out of the apartment. The truck crashed through the front door and a front window of the apartment, scattering debris and the contents of the living room. The children suffered minor scrapes from flying debris but were treated at the scene and did not require further aid.
The driver, a 36-year-old Pontiac woman was arrested a short time later after a large crowd of people who had assembled after the crash pointed to the woman. She was being held by a security guard. The driver was taken to the hospital after she complained of possible injuries. She denied that she was the driver of the vehicle. She was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated but released from custody pending toxicology reports.
