(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 10, 2025)
Oak Park, MI – Every year Oak Parkers come together for World Dance Day to enjoy the many traditions and cultures that make Oak Park the unique city that it is.
This year’s event featured ballroom dancing, the hustle, traditional African drumming and dancing, spiritual-based performances, mimes, and Nritya Shudah’s Hindu Temple Rhythms group.
April 29 is officially World Dance Day, in honor of French ballet master Jean-Georges Noverre who was a champion of expression.Oak Park’s event was a few days earlier. The Oak Park Arts & Cultural Diversity Commission hosted the event.
It’s a tradition the Oak Park Mayor Marian McClellan loves. “At a time when so much divides us, dance unites us as one world celebrating diversity, sharing love and art of other cultures. Dancing for others is a gift of friendship. World Day of Dance is an event I look forward to every year.”
