Rochester Hills, MI – After recently announcing that the city has become debt-free, officials are taking another step to help keep it that way by charging residents and visitors to park at Innovation Hills.
The City announced the paid parking plan on Wednesday, stating:
“We absolutely love what we have created at Innovation Hills! And judging by the accolades the park has received, and the nearly half-a-million visitors we saw last year, the feeling is mutual. In an effort to keep Innovation Hills a beautiful and enjoyable space for everyone, we are introducing a small hourly parking fee of $1.50/hour starting May 27.
“To avoid hourly fees, grab an annual Rochester Hills Parks Pass for unlimited access to Innovation Hills, Spencer, and Bloomer Parks at rochesterhills.org/parkspass! Resident passes are $35 ($20 for seniors/military/handicap), and non-resident passes are $70 ($40 for seniors/military/handicap). You can also walk, bike, or use the free lot on the opposite side of Hamlin Road. Thank you for always supporting our beautiful parks!”
Innovation Hills features over 100 acres that is a mix of nature trails and play area at 2800 W. Hamlin Road. The park includes a wooden boardwalk that is kept clear year-round, as well as a paved trail and a rustic trail. The City recently added a suspension bridge over the Clinton River which connects to a forested nature path. The park features an elaborate playground centered with a multi-level tree-shaped playhouse. And there’s also a pond with a fountain.
In progress are new restroom facilities, funded in part by a $250,000 allocation from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and a $250,000 grant through Oakland County Parks.
Rochester Hills also charges a fee for the use of Bloomer Park and Spencer Park.
