Orion ONTV Honors Volunteers, Presents Awards
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 7, 2025)
Lake Orion, MI – Orion ONTV hosted their annual volunteer recognition dinner on April 25, with over 50 members of the public television team coming together to celebrate the programs, podcasts, meeting documentation and community service that the station provides.
Morine Perry was honored as Producer of the Year for her program Let’s Chat About That, which has been on ONTV since 2023. When asked what she loves about being part of ONTV, Perry said “It helps me to do the things I’m really interested in…They help build confidence too.”
Podcaster of the Year went to Kathy and James Arthur for their show Talking News. “You’re doing stuff you love, but you’re giving back to the community,” James said.
Barb and Chris Gulley of Barb’s Tea Service earned the Spirit of Public Access Award. “When you aired the first podcast I was a little rusty,” Barb said. “And you worked with us to kind of polish it out. We’ve been able to bring people in as special guests to talk about their passions, and it’s been wonderful. It’s a great community.”
Sue Lovelace was honored with Volunteer of the Year. And Bob Lowe of Bob’s Music Time was given a Special Milestone Award for having reached 50 episodes of his program.
“The volunteer appreciation banquet is the one focal point during the year where we reflect back on the previous year with our volunteers, and we get to say thank you to them because what is a nonprofit organization without your volunteers?” said ONTV Executive Director Ian Locke.
Locke said that many of the volunteers have been with the station for over a decade, and there’s even one volunteer with more than 30 years in.
Members of the public are invited to be part of the fun and learning with classes in media production, podcasts, contests, and even classes for kids. Learn more at https://orionontv.org/
