OC Restaurant Quest: Koi Express in Southfield

Southfield, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County has led to a fantastic Japanese restaurant in Southfield called Koi Express Hibachi and Sushi.
My favorite item was the Banana Roll, which was sushi made with banana in the middle, topped with avocado and spicy ginger sauce. This made for a creamy mix of flavors that went unexpectedly well together.
The steak roll was also amazing. It featured fried steak, cream cheese, avocado and sweet and spicy sauce which was delicious.
The salmon tempura roll was similarly good, with avocado and sweet sauce complimenting the crispy breaded shrimp. And for a classic dish that lasted for a couple rounds of leftovers I got the NY Steak fried rice that had a smooth and salty flavor with the perfect mix of rice, veggies, and beef.
Koi Express has a variety of items on their menu, including miso soup, fried calamari, and Japanese fried wasabi chicken. For sushi rolls one might enjoy the cucumber roll, the volcano roll, the yum yum roll and many others. The Las Vegas roll, for example, has salmon, kimchi, cucumber, jalapeno and spicy mayo. And the Christmas roll has tuna, salmon, red snapper, cream cheese, sweet soy and spicy mayo.
