Ferndale Seeks Volunteers for Accessibility and Inclusion Advisory Commission
(FAIAC, March 25, 2025)
Ferndale, MI – Want to have a direct impact on making our city more accessible for everyone, especially people with disabilities? Consider signing up to make a difference with us, right here at Ferndale City Hall!
Who We Are
The Ferndale Accessibility and Inclusion Advisory Commission (FAIAC) is an official volunteer city commission made up of Ferndale residents that meets at city hall once a month. Our job is to discuss local accessibility issues, and then directly advise the Ferndale City Council and other city employees on how they can make Ferndale an easier place to live, work, and visit. Our city has a good record of listening to us and acting on our advice.
In the past, we’ve…
- Hosted almost every member of Ferndale’s city government at our meetings
- Given awards to local orgs and businesses that have gone the extra mile to be more accessible
- Advised on new construction projects around the city, the accessibility of in-person voting, city-hosted events like Ferndale Pride, and more!
When We Meet
Our meetings are at Ferndale City Hall in-person on the first Monday of every month, from 6:30-8:00pm.
If you’re a Ferndale resident and have ideas for how we can make our city more accessible and inclusive, we want your voice to be heard. We have several open seats, and you could be one of the amazing people to join us in making things better here. If you want to join but are not able to come in-person due to disability, we can help set you up with an accommodation to join some or all of our meetings by video call.
Want to come by and see what our meetings are like before committing? All members of the public can attend and can even speak on their own issues and concerns during public comment.
How to Sign Up
Anybody who lives in Ferndale can complete a short application to join our commission via the city website. You can access this application at https://ferndalemi.granicus.com/boards/forms/542/apply/4257684?code=81f555e5-e483-4666-984f-112c6b0954f2
