OC Restaurant Quest: Goomah in Sylvan Lake
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 19, 2025)
Sylvan Lake, MI – “Goomah” is Italian slang for “mistress,” as well as the name of a restaurant that recently opened in Sylvan Lake featuring pizza and other Italian dishes.
The menu features a nice selection of both pizza and higher-end meals, so I decided to feature one of each. For a filling comfort-food dinner I ordered the Chicken Parmsean served with spaghetti and marinara sauce and the choice of a side. For mine I picked the wood-fired vegetables which was a mix of classic favorites. The chicken was thick and juicy with a delicious breading and a sauce that is mild enough to please most palates. And the veggies had a wonderful roasted taste to them.
For this meal I also had the the chocolate lava cake, garnished with berries and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The day I indulged in pizza I had the Pesto e Pepperoni, a gourmet version that is made with pesto cream, mozzarella, herbed riccotta, Parmsean, and the kind of pepperonis that curl up and form little cups of greasy goodness when baked. The pizza is made in a wood fired oven, with a Neapolitan-style crust that is crispy on the outside while being delicate and airy on the inside.
Other pizza choices include the Spicy Sausage and Onion, the White Clam, the Mushroom, and more.
For dessert I had the Panna Cotta which is a round cake with a pudding-like texture topped with cherry compote.
Goomah has a number of non-pizza items including lobster bisque, clam chowder, calamari, bang bang shrimp, grouper picatta, sausage and peppers, portobello mushroom ravioli and more.
Carryout is easy, but for those who want a lovely night out could enjoy the dimly lit beautiful space with lights on the table and a romantic ambiance. Goomah is located at 2440 Orchard Lake Road in Sylvan Lake. Learn more at https://goomah.cool/.
