OC Restaurant Quest: Woodpile BBQ Shack in Madison Hts. & Clawson
(Crystal A. Proxmire, orig. Feb. 26, 2021)
Madison Heights, Clawson, MI – There are two locations for Woodpile BBQ Shack, and I recently decided to give their Madison Heights restaurant a try.
I wanted a nice sampling so I ordered the Three Meat Combo with pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket along with my two choices for sides: mac and cheese and cornbread, plus a side of sweet potato mash.
It was a huge meal, and I ended up focusing on the brisket and using the pulled pork and pulled chicken for leftovers. The soft cornbread and well-pureed sweet potato mash were both on the sweet side, as was the BBQ sauce. The meats are smoked the night before for their smokey flavor.
Other menu items include smoked ham, ribs, turkey, and sausage. There are sandwiches like the Texan Hangover featuring cheddar jalapeno sausage, slaw and pickled onions, and the Carolina Pulled pork which comes topped with pickled onions and slaw. Sides include waffle fries, roadside pit beans, and collard greens.
Woodpile is located at 630 E 11 Mile in Madison Heights and 303 S. Main Street in Downtown Clawson. Check them out online at www.woodpilebbqshack.com.

White Castle is a family-owned business. With steam-grilled sliders, crispy golden fries, fantastic slides like onion chips or mac and cheese nibblers, and the best chocolate shakes, White Castle is a by far our top choice for a fast-food meal.
