13 Year Old Arrested for Series of Break Ins, Choking of a Child in Pontiac
(OCSO, Feb. 8, 2025)
Pontiac, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s
Sheriff Michael Bouchard announced the arrest today during a news conference to help calm fears that an unknown and potentially dangerous subject was loose in the community. The teen was placed in Oakland County Children’s Village after his arrest Thursday evening in Pontiac. The case was turned over to the Prosecutor’s Office to determine potential charges.
“I know there was tremendous anxiety and fear in the community, and I wanted to bring it down a notch,” Bouchard said. “We wanted to let the community know they can take a breath. This kind of case is the worst possible nightmare for any parent or their child.”
The boy, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, is accused in a home invasion which happened early Tuesday morning in Pontiac. Detectives believe he was the suspect who wore a ski mask and was armed with a knife when he entered a home in the 100 block of N. Anderson St. and choked a 10-year-old girl who had been sleeping in her bed. The suspect was apparently frightened off by the girl’s screams. The girl’s mother saw the suspect wearing all black running down the stairs and out of the home. It appeared the suspect entered the home through an unlocked kitchen window, Bouchard said. The girl was not injured.
Detectives have linked the boy to nine completed or attempted home invasions in Pontiac and two in Detroit dating as far back as 2022 and were unreported.
In each instance, a lone suspect entered the home or attempted to gain entry through an unlocked window. The suspect appeared to target residences with teenage/adolescent females. The suspect possessed a knife in at least three of the Pontiac incidents and one in Detroit.
Bouchard credited and thanked the public for helping solve the case by calling in tips that ultimately led to the arrest.
“He was targeting the homes of young girls,” Bouchard said. “It’s terrifying. Any adult would shudder at the thought, let alone a child.”
