Avondale Student Stabbed in Scuffle with Classmate in High School Bathroom

Auburn Hills, MI – On Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, at approximately 7:50 a.m., the Auburn Hills Police Department was informed of an altercation that took place in a bathroom at the Avondale High School at 2800 Waukegan Street.
The Auburn Hills Police School Resource Officer and Avondale Security staff began their investigation.
They determined a 15-year-old male student, and a 16-year-old male student were involved in the altercation. The 15-year-old male was allegedly stabbed in the altercation by the 16-year-old student with a small pocketknife.
The school was placed in soft lockdown, and additional Auburn Hills Police Officers responded to assist with locating the 16-year-old suspect.
The 15-year-old male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the altercation. He refused transport to the hospital and was taken to a local hospital by his parents, where he was later treated and released.
Video surveillance cameras confirmed that the suspect had left the campus on foot just after the altercation at approximately 7:40 a.m.
Auburn Hills Officers and Detectives were able to contact the suspect’s parents, who are cooperating with the investigation. At approximately 9:40 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Oakland County Children’s Village Juvenile Detention Center.
This case will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review of charges. The names or photographs of the juvenile suspect or victim will not be released.
This was an isolated incident between two students, no other students were injured or involved in the altercation. We want to thank the Avondale School District Administrative staff and Security staff for their assistance with the investigation and partnership with ensuring the safety of all Avondale School District students.
