Detroit Artists Market Seeking New Space, Donations Following Flood
(Jan 30, 2025)
Detroit, MI – Detroit Artists Market, located at 4719 Woodward Ave, is temporarily closed due to flooding and they have turned to the community for help.
An email from DAM describes what they are looking for:
Last week, our building experienced a significant flood, which caused damage to our facilities and infrastructure. We are working closely with our landlords and insurance providers to assess the full extent of the damage and determine next steps.
We are relieved to share that all artwork from our planned exhibition was returned to the artists, thanks to the swift action of our team. Further, despite the significant damage to our facilities, the majority of the work in storage and our gift shop is undamaged. While our space is temporarily closed, we remain committed to protecting the works entrusted to us and to serving our community.
This flood disrupted the year-long planning that goes into our exhibitions, directly affecting curators and the artists who were looking forward to showcasing their work this year. Exhibitions like Dope Women in Media, Girlhood, and the Detroit Artists Market Annual Scholarship Exhibition are now at risk. This underscores the urgent need for a stable and reliable temporary space where we can honor these commitments to our artists and community.

We are calling on our incredible community of supporters to help us during this challenging time. Acting quickly will allow us to minimize disruptions to the artists who rely on us to showcase and sell their work in our gallery and gift shop, while continuing to honor the commitments we’ve made to curators and partners.
Here’s how you can help:
- Monetary Support: Your contribution will directly support relocation costs, including securing a temporary space, moving expenses, and necessary renovations. We aim to raise $35,000 to cover temporary facility rentals, space renovations, offsite exhibition planning and installation, and to help offset business losses.
- Help Us Find a Space: If you know of a building or property in Detroit that could serve as a temporary home for DAM’s 2025 exhibitions and programs, we’d love to connect.
- In-kind Support: Donations of goods or services – such as exhibition and office furniture, installation tools, or technology – will help us recover more quickly and reduce costs.
- Spread the Word: Share our story with your networks to help us identify potential financial support or space opportunities.

DAM has been a cornerstone of the city’s creative community for 93 years. This is not just our space—it’s yours. This flood has tested our resilience, but it has also reminded us of the strength of our community. Together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger.
We appreciate the support and patience of our community during this challenging time. As we navigate the recovery process, we will provide updates on how you can help us rebuild and reopen our doors. |
