Fresh Paint & TLC for Highland’s Historic Steeple Hall

Highland Township, MI – One of the most recognizable buildings in Downtown Highland is the Steeple Hall, which is currently home to Huron Valley Council for the Arts and the Highland Downtown Development Authority.
Located at 205 W. Livingston Road, this historic property was built in 1886 and served as home for Highland United Methodist Church for nearly 100 years before being sold to Highland Township in 1980.
The wooden Victorian Gothic building with it’s towering steeple and cedar shake shingles has seen a lot of use over the years, and was recently given some love and care to help restore some of it’s historic glory.
Highland Township worked with Ronald Diedrich and his team at Diedrich Painting on the $35,000 project.
The project involved power washing, replacing deteriorated shingles, and applying wood preservative. The painting phase included washing, scraping, and sanding the old Church and School House portions of Steeple Hall, followed by meticulous priming and caulking with polyurethane sealant.
Diedrich enjoyed diving into the details of the historic building. “It was such a Great Honor to have been chosen to perform this project! It comes with such an amazing & personal reward, as to be able to look out my window, see the project, and know that people from all over the town of Highland, can look at our work and smile, saying to Steeple Hall, “How beautiful thou art…”
