Man Accused of Biting Off Part of Woman’s Ear, Assaulting Her and Children in Royal Oak Township

Royal Oak Township, MI- Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald charged Jacob Macklis, a 23-year-old resident of Detroit, with Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree, Assault with Intent to Maim, Assault by Strangulation, and Felonious Assault, two counts of Child Abuse 3rd Degree, and Domestic Violence.
On January 18, 2025, law enforcement was called to Royal Oak Township’s American Inn after reports of a woman and children screaming for help. When Michigan State Police arrived, they found Macklis holding the victim, a 35-year-old woman, by her hair. He then punched the victim in the face in front of the officers. Following his arrest and further investigation, Macklis is accused of physically and sexually assaulting the victim, including biting off part of her ear, as well as physically assaulting her two minor children.
“The level of violence in this case is shocking,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “My heart goes out to this woman and her children for what they had to endure. My office will pursue the maximum charges against this defendant because his victims deserve justice.”
Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. Assault carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each charge. Child Abuse 3rd Degree carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison for each charge. Domestic violence is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 93 days in jail.
