Oakland County Farmers Market Hosting Guest Chef Cooking Demonstrations
Waterford, MI – Learn how to continue incorporating healthy foods to create interesting, vibrant winter meals during the Cooking with edibleWOW demonstration series at the Oakland County Farmers Market. Each of the six sessions will feature local chefs and culinary experts preparing recipes with ingredients readily available during winter, such as root vegetables, honey, garlic, onions and apples. Chef Frank Turner from Citizen Provisions will kick off the 2025 series from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.
A collaboration with edibleWOW magazine, each cooking demonstration highlights a different chef, who brings his or her unique culinary experiences to the table. Chefs not only share delicious recipes, but also handy tips and tricks that home cooks can use when preparing meals for family and friends. Guests can also ask questions during these interactive sessions.
Following each cooking demonstration, guests can sample the prepared recipe while supplies last and enter a drawing for culinary items donated by Oakland County Farmers Market vendors. In addition to Turner, the 2025 lineup includes:
- Jan. 25 – Erin Hamilton, founder and chief mycologist of The Mushroom Conservatory
- Feb. 8 – Regional Executive Chef Vincent Jones, StoryPoint Group
- Feb. 22 – Hospitality Expert Nina Love, The Love Experience
- March 8 – Chefs Jeremy Abbey and John Piazza, Detroit Institute of Gastronomy
- March 22 – Executive Chef Terence Tarver, The Inn at St. John’s
Each cooking demonstration takes place from 10-11 a.m. at the Oakland County Farmers Market, 2350 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.
“These cooking demonstrations continue to be very popular with our guests,” Market Manager Brad Wethy said. “Guests enjoy the unique perspective each chef brings to the table as they prepare a wide range of diverse dishes from start to finish. These are recipes that can easily be re-created by guests so they can enjoy new, exciting experiences at home.”
With printed recipe copies available during the program, guests can watch a chef prepare a recipe and then purchase the ingredients they need from market vendors afterward. Chef biographies and recipes are also posted at OaklandCountyParks.com/FarmersMarket following each cooking demonstration.
“It can be so easy to skip healthy choices in favor of comfort foods during the winter months,” Wethy said. “The cooking demonstrations are a good way to get out of a rut, explore new produce varieties and challenge yourself to cook with local ingredients all year long.”
