Ferndale Library Welcomes New Director Drew Macaulay
(FADL, Jan. 3, 2025)
Ferndale, MI – This week, the Ferndale Library welcomes a new year and a new director, as librarian Drew Macaulay accepted her new administrative role offered by FADL’s Board of Directors, effective December 29, 2024. Macaulay had, until this week, been serving as Head of Adult Services; her promotion follows the recent departure of former FADL director Jordan Wright, who recently relocated to become director of the Tecumseh Public Library.
“We are deeply impressed by Drew’s extensive knowledge and her ability to thoughtfully analyze opportunities for the library to serve the ever-evolving needs of our community,” said Board President Judeen Bartos. “Equally important, (Macaulay) brings a strong sense of empathy and leadership, recognizing the human element essential to our success.”
Macaulay started at the Ferndale Library as a Circulation Specialist in August 2021, working at the front desk and performing a wide range of services, including new library card sign-ups. During this time, she was enrolled at Wayne State, studying Information and Library Sciences, eventually attaining her Master’s in 2023, the same year she became Head of Adult Services, overseeing that department and adult programming. Over the last month, she’d taken on the additional role of Interim Assistant Director, leading up to this week’s promotion.
“The Board was once again able to hire internally from our talented leadership staff,” Bartos said. “And we are confident that, under Drew’s leadership, the library is poised for an exciting future.”
Macaulay attained her Bachelor’s in English and Theatre from Albion College, which was just west of her hometown of Battle Creek. Afterward, she spent several years in Virginia, working in the D.C. area as a licensed Vet Tech. She later relocated to the Metro Area, where she worked as a zookeeper at the Detroit Zoo, during which time she enrolled at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law. In 2008, she received her Juris Doctorate and would go on to practice law for more than a decade, switching gears in 2020 to eventually become a librarian.
“I’m excited to lead our incredible library as we build a community that reflects Ferndale’s unique qualities and culture,” Macaulay said. “It is an honor to work with our team to continue FADL’s trajectory of excellence in service, programming, and collections.”
