OC Restaurant Quest: Franks-A-Lot in Waterford

Waterford, MI –  I wanted to end this year’s Restaurant Quest with a ton of gratitude and some good old fashioned coney dogs, so here’s a bit about Franks-A-Lot in Waterford.

Located at the corner of Dixie Highway and Scott Lake Road, Franks-A-Lot has been serving up hot dogs, burgers, breakfast and more for at least 30 years.  I’ve driven by a bunch of times, but only recently have I been lured in since they are now available on Door Dash, and they have extended their hours to include dinner.

There’s a simple strip of counter seating and a small section with just two rows of booths.  There is a mural of a lake adorning the main wall, while large windows offer up views of the passing traffic.

I picked up a classic coney dog, topped with house-made chili, chopped onions and mustard.  I also got crispy onion rings, and a pair of cheese sliders.  Everything was just as you’d expect from a traditional coney spot, with the food prepared on grill in view of patrons at the counter.

Breakfast choices at Franks-A-Lot include biscuits and gravy, raisin cinnamon toast, and classics like eggs with bacon or sausage. There’s also county fried steak, king sized waffle or pigs in a blanket.

Kentucky Hash is another hearty option, made with hash browns, ham, onion, and Swiss with biscuits, gravy, and two eggs.

For lunch or dinner one might enjoy a Philly Steak and Cheese sandwich, a Taco Salad, or a Chicken Strip Platter. There’s also a Polish Philly made with Polish sausage, onion, peppers, and cheddar on a sub bun.

There are even kids menu choices like Mickey Mouse Pancakes or a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
