Ferndale Community Foundation and Ferndale Pride Announce Grant Recipients

Ferndale, MI – The Ferndale Community Foundation and Ferndale Pride distributed $35,113.85 in grants to 18 community organizations at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Ferndale Pride made its return to 9 Mile for the 14th year. Under the leadership of Julia Music, the Executive Director of
Ferndale Pride, the event remained free to the public and was able to give back to local charities. Proceeds from Pride were granted to the following organizations:
1. Affirmations
2. ACCESS
3. Gender Identity Network
4. Matrix Human Services
5. TGDetroit
6. Transgender Michigan
In addition, The Ferndale Community Foundation provided an additional twelve grants through its annual giving. The
Community Foundation receives funding from proceeds from Ferndale Pride and private donations. The organizations
which were awarded grants through the Community Foundation were:
1. Ferndale Community Concert Band
2. Disability Network of Eastern Michigan
3. Ferndale Housing Commission
4. FernCare Free Clinic
5. Ringwald Theater
6. Ferndale MS Swim Boosters
7. Renaissance Vineyard Food Pantry
8. Friends of the Ferndale Library
9. Ferndale Schools Fine Arts Boosters
10. Sing Out Detroit (SOD)
11. Southeast Oakland Coalition
12. PlayLab
“Each year,I get to hand checks to organizations that directly provide services to LGBTQAI folks. Because these funds are unrestricted, organizations have the flexibility to provide funds in the way that serves their clients best. We are thrilled to carry out the founding principles of this event which includes giving back to the community, “ said Julia Music Executive Director of Ferndale Pride.
Community Foundation Chair Anatoly Askanzi said, “We keep being able to give back! 12 grants this year is more than
double the number of groups that we gave to last year. These funds make a huge difference in our community
because they improve the lives of a wide range of folks in Ferndale.”
The Ferndale Community Foundation is a 501c3 private foundation that supports projects and organizations benefiting
residents of Ferndale in the areas of art, health care, culture, and education.
