Future of Waterford Oaks Park Under Discussion, Public Input Wanted
(Oakland County Parks, Dec. 19, 2024)
Waterford, MI – Oakland County Parks has shared information about the future of Waterford Oaks Park, inviting the public to share feedback and ideas.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Waterford Oaks County Park has been a beloved spot since the 1970s, featuring attractions like the Waterford Oaks Wave Pool and the Fridge.
“The park has also suffered from significant disinvestment and deterioration over the years due to insufficient funding to keep pace with maintenance and improvement needs. With voter approval of the millage proposal this November, we are able to invest in major improvements at Waterford Oaks that will give the park a new lease on life and result in better experiences for our guests. Public input plays an important role in shaping these decisions and we hope you’ll share your thoughts about the park and the changes you’d like to see.
“Unfortunately, guests will experience some inconveniences as we undertake the revitalization effort at Waterford Oaks. The Wave Pool will not be opened for the 2025 season due to the steep decline in ticket sales that has occurred since the removal of popular waterpark features.
“Several options are under consideration for the future of the site, including restoring the waterpark with modern features, or adapting the facility to primarily serve as a pool, or even adapting the site for alternative recreational activities/uses.
