OC Restaurant Quest: The Village Place in Waterford

Waterford, MI – The Village Place is a diner on Dixie Highway in Waterford that doesn’t have a website and can’t be found on DoorDash, but still has a steady base of regular customers that the waitstaff know by name.  They’ve been in business since 1983, with the sign out front recently announcing having a new owner.  I had not been there before, so I cannot tell if anything has changed, but I’m guessing from the menu that they’re sticking with tradition.

I visited on a rainy afternoon for some writing time in a nice big booth and to enjoy some comfort food. I ordered the open faced meatloaf sandwich, smothered in brown gravy and served with mashed potatoes and green beans. And a slice of coconut cream pie for dessert.  The meatloaf was thick and flavorful, with the white bread and mashed potatoes soaking up the flavor of the beef and the gravy.

The menu at The Village Place is full of classic diner options, like breaded veal, chicken wings, smothered grilled sirloin, goulash, and spaghetti. They have other sandwiches as well, including the French Dip, the club, and a fish sandwich.  There are burgers, nachos, and hot dogs, plus a selection of salads, including the julienne and the waist watcher.

There are several pies to chose from, and even a kids section of the menu that has things like mac and cheese, chicken strips, and grilled cheese that picky eaters may enjoy.

The Village Place also serves breakfast The griddle section of the menu has French toast and pancakes, while there are also a number of omelette choices including a list of ingredients so visitors can make their own.

The Village Place is located at 5723 Dixie Highway in the Waterfall Plaza Shopping Center.  Enjoy!
