OC Restaurant Quest – Que Pasa Taqueria in Royal Oak and Sterling Hts.

Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, MI – I’m always on the lookout for amazing, authentic Mexican food and the recently opened Que Pasa Taqueria in Royal Oak definitely hit the spot.
Located on 12 Mile near Rochester Road (where Boston Market used to be back in the day!), this quick little restaurant has booths and tables, as well as a bustling carryout service all in decor that is bright and clean, but with some pops of fun. Plus the parking is free! There’s also a location in Sterling Heights.
A friend and I went for lunch, enjoying chips and salsa until our meals came.
I got the Combo #1 which had three street tacos on corn tortillas with cilantro and onion, beans and rice, and a drink. There are a number of protein choices and it’s totally okay to mix them up. So I had one that was shredded chicken (tinga), one that was steak (asada), and shredded beef (birria). I picked a pineapple flavored soda to go with this incredible tasting feast.
My friend had the Combo #2. This had three red tacos served with consome. Consome is a beef stew used for dipping tacos, which I also got to taste. The stew had a rich flavor that has some chili flavor while also a taste of cinnamon. It was incredibly good. My friend says Que Pasa is now tied for her favorite (along with Taco Tienda in Madison Heights).
The menu at Que Pasa is pretty simple. There are tacos, burritos, and quesadillas with a choice of protein. They also have tortas, which are traditional Mexican sandwiches.
Sides include bean and rice, guacamole, and fries. One can order churros, flan, or deep fried cheesecake burritos called xango for dessert.
