Birmingham Seeks Applicants to Fill City Commission Vacancy (City of Birmingham, Dec. 2, 2024) Birmingham, MI- On Monday, November 18, 2024, former Mayor Elaine McLain resigned from her position on the City Commission, and Therese Longe was appointed to the Mayor position. According to the City Charter, the Commission must appoint a new City Commissioner within 30 days of her resignation. The newly appointed Commissioner will hold the seat until the next regular municipal election, which will occur on November 4, 2025. Applications are now being accepted to fill the vacant City Commission seat from December 16, 2024 through the November 4, 2025 general election. Applicants must be residents of the City of Birmingham for at least one year and registered electors. Interested citizens may request an application from the City Clerk’s office, download the PDF and return the completed form, or apply online. Completed applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office on or before noon on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. These applications will appear in the public agenda for the regular City Commission meeting on December 16, 2024, at which time the City Commission will discuss recommendations, and may make nominations, and vote on the appointments. Once appointed, the applicant will immediately begin serving as a City Commissioner. |
