Frank Nastasi Selected as Troy City Manager
(City of Troy, Nov. 26, 2024)
Troy, MI – The Troy City Council unanimously selected Frank Nastasi to serve as its next City Manager at the Nov. 25 City Council meeting.
Nastasi, who has been temporarily serving in the role of City Manager since September, was one of three finalists for the position to oversee the day-to-day operations for the City of Troy.
“I’m honored to serve as City Manager and look forward to building on Troy’s strong foundation,” said Nastasi. “My focus will be on enhancing collaboration, driving community-focused initiatives and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional service to our residents and businesses.”
Nastasi has a long history serving the City of Troy; he served as the Troy Chief of Police from 2018 until he was temporarily appointed City Manager earlier this year. In total, Nastasi served as a member of the Troy Police Department for 28 years and was in law enforcement for 31 years.
The trust that Nastasi has built with the community over the last 28 years, his proven ability to lead and his collaborative nature are all reasons members of City Council selected him to serve as City Manager.
“Frank (Nastasi) has a long history with Troy and has continually demonstrated the type of relational leadership that we know will serve our City best,” said Mayor Ethan Baker. “A successful City Manager must have the respect of our valuable City employees, must have a good sense of our residents’ and business owners’ needs, demonstrating the ability to communicate and relate to our diverse population, and finally, must work well with City Council, executing our directives in an efficient and ethical manner, and also providing Council with regular information and guidance. There is no doubt Frank will live up to these standards and be a fantastic City Manager.” T
he City Manager search for the City of Troy was led by Jaymes Vettraino of MGT (formerly GovHR USA). During this process, community stakeholders and City staff were invited to meet the three finalists and provide feedback to members of the City Council.
The City Council also publicly interviewed all three finalists on Nov. 16. Now that Nastasi has been selected to serve as City Manager, his contract to serve in the position will be approved at a future City Council meeting. The position was posted with a salary range of $177,500-$240,000
With Nastasi selected to serve in the City Manager position long-term, another high-profile position for the City of Troy will also need to be filled within the coming weeks. When Nastasi was chosen to temporarily serve as City Manager in September, this meant his position of Police Chief needed to be temporarily filled.
The Act 78 Civil Service Commission certified Troy Police Capt. Joshua Jones to serve in that role. Jones was sworn-in as Acting Police Chief on Sept. 26. According to Michigan Civil Service regulations, an Acting Police Chief may be appointed whenever there are urgent reasons to fill a vacancy, but this temporary appointment cannot continue for more than three months. With the three-month deadline (Dec. 26) to permanently fill the City of Troy Police Chief position approaching, the City of Troy posted the position and continues to work through the recruitment process to fill the role.
