(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 23, 2024)
Troy, MI – Many communities in Michigan have snow emergency policies that set forth the rules for when there is snow that help ensure the safe and efficient removal of snow from the roadways. The City of Troy implemented a policy earlier this year, and has sent out the following information as a reminder to residents and visitors:
“In June of 2024 the Troy City Council approved an amendment to the Traffic Code to include snow emergencies.
The decision to implement the ability to declare snow emergencies allows City officials to further enhance the safety of the Troy community. A snow emergency in the City of Troy will be issued when snowfall exceeds 4 inches, necessitating the plowing of subdivision streets.
During a snow emergency, removing all vehicles from public streets ensures our plow trucks can operate efficiently and clear the entire roadway. By plowing the streets, safe roads are maintained for both residents and emergency vehicles. \
Once a snow emergency is declared in the City of Troy, all vehicles must be removed from the road until either the snow emergency is over or the road is completely cleared.
Parking on the street during a snow emergency is prohibited and fineable up to $75.
Troy community members will be notified when a snow emergency is declared when they sign up for email and/or text alerts at bit.ly/TroySnow. When a snow emergency is declared information will also be on the City’s social media accounts, website and local cable stations. The information will also be sent to local news outlets.
