Ferndale Library Director Jordan Wright Resigns to Accept Position in Tecumseh
(FADL, Nov. 21, 2024)
Ferndale, MI – After 12 years of service at the Ferndale Area District Library, Jordan Wright has announced his forthcoming departure, having accepted the position as Director of the Tecumseh District Library. The library’s Board of Directors will meet this week to approve an interim director until a search for a permanent replacement can be conducted.
During his first six years at the Ferndale Library, Wright served as a youth librarian, later rising to Head of Youth Services. During that time, Wright became fondly regarded by local caregivers and families not only for his cordial and outstanding service but particularly for his energetic storytimes, augmented by his lifelong talents as a musician, utilizing the uniquely shaped Martin-brand backpacker guitar to sing songs for his toddler-aged audiences. Wright also coordinated several extensive Summer Reading Programs and Battle of the Books tournaments and oversaw various engaging events and activities for local youths.
Wright later moved on from the Youth Department into the role of Assistant Director (in 2021), during which time he assisted in the library’s transition from socially-distanced curbside services (initiated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic) back into in-person services. Wright became an integral and flexible component of the library during this time, filling in wherever and whenever on all three major service desks.
In January 2024, Wright accepted the position of Director of the Ferndale Library, spearheading renovations to expand accessibility in the library, adding single-stall bathrooms and a new reservable study room.
Wright’s final day at the Ferndale Library is Thursday, December 12, and the library invites the entire community to bid him a fond farewell as he prepares to move to Tecumseh.
“We are certainly going to miss Jordan and all the joy and energy he brought to our library. As a long-time board member it has been a delight to watch him rise through the ranks and grow into his position of leadership. Well done!” said Board President Judeen Bartos.
The library’s Board of Directors will meet tonight at 6:30 pm to approve an interim director until a search for a permanent replacement can be conducted. When a job posting becomes available, Oakland County Times will share it. For more on the Ferndale Area District Library visit https://www.ferndalepubliclibrary.org/
