Troy Public Library Closed After Cockroaches Found with Returned Items

Troy, MI – The Troy Public Library is closed, with a couple of explanations given by the library, with a series of updates on Facebook stating:
UDPATE, 8:14 pm Due to a power outage, the Library building will remain closed until further notice. All programming on November 21 is cancelled. Return dropboxes are closed. Items due will be backdated to account for the closure. Please check the website for updates on re-opening status.
UPDATE, 12:35 pm: The Library will be closed for the remainder of the day and is still closed until further notice. All November 20 in-person programming is cancelled. Return dropboxes are closed; items due will be backdated to account for the closure. Re-opening updates will be shared.
UPDATE, 12:03 pm: The Library remains closed at this time. There is a power outage and the Library is working with DTE to determine an estimated restoration time. There also were nymph cockroaches found on a limited number of items returned in the Library’s dropbox last night. Since then, professional exterminators have thoroughly cleaned the affected materials and the surrounding areas. The are no additional concerns regarding pest control. The materials patrons currently have checked out have not been contaminated and are safe to use. Thank you for your patience as the Library continues to work to make your health and safety top priority!
