Voter Turnout Across Oakland County Communities in 2024 Election
(Kurt Metzger, Nov. 7, 2024)
Oakland County, MI – The November 2024 General Election is over and the voters have spoken. Unofficial results show that 777,257 registered voters (72.9 percent) submitted ballots in 2024. This is down ever so slightly from 2020’s total of 777,455 in 2020 (74.9 percent).
The chart below ranks turnout for each of the 51 municipalities (village residents are included in their townships) in the county. Turnout ranged from 94.1 percent in tiny Novi township (only 136 registered voters) and 85.5 percent for the perennial leader, Huntington Woods, to lows of 44.5 percent in the City of Pontiac and 49.1 percent in Royal Oak township.
The communities at the top and the bottom of the ranking have shown a consistency over the many years I have been tracking turnout data.
Only nine communities increased their turnouts over 2020, led by Novi Twp. (up by 5.0 percentage points). Only two of those communities were cities – Clarkston and Pleasant Ridge. While Huntington Woods was the only community to show no change, forty-one communities experienced decreased turnout. The largest decreases were seen in Lake Angelus (-8.4 percentage points), Royal Oak twp. (-4.9), Troy (-4.7), Bloomfield Hills (-4.4) and Orchard Lake (-4.2).
Here’s the chart showing how each community did:
