OC Restaurant Quest: Tokyo Sushi in Downtown Royal Oak

Royal Oak, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with a visit to Tokyo Sushi & Grill in Downtown Royal Oak. Specializing in Japanese and Thai cuisine, this popular spot has carryout but also has some inside seating.
I got a carryout order with something from the Thai side and the sushi side. I stared with Drunken Noodles, which are thick rice noodles sauteed with nice thick pieces of green pepper, egg, basil, and carrots. There’s a choice of proteins and I picked beef. Other options include chicken, imitation crab, pork, scallops, shrimp, squid, tofu, or vegetable.
For the sushi I enjoyed the vegetable tempura roll made with veggies coated in crispy breading. And I had the smoked salmon roll. Both were made with quality ingredients and a low price.
There are other sushi choices, including the Firecracker roll which is the house special, made with shrimp tempura, crab salad, and crab and spicy sauces. The Lion King roll is made with cream cheese topped with scallops and sauce. And there are rolls named after cars including the Audi Roll, the BMW, and the Dodge which has tempura tuna, cheese, avocado, smelt roe, and crunch. Traditional Thai dishes include pineapple fried rice, potato curry, Thai pepper steak, Pad Thai and more.
