Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Royal Oak After Reportedly Disregarding Signal

Royal Oak, MI – A 44-year-old Pontiac man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Royal Oak Saturday morning.
On October 12, 2024, at approximately 9:17 a.m., Royal Oak officers and paramedics responded to the area of Sixth Street and Center after receiving a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a train.
Preliminary investigation determined the man disregarded the crossing signals and was attempting to hurry across the tracks as the train approached. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the incident.
The victim was transported to Corewell Health / William Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
