One Suspect Arrested in Rochester Hills Murder, One Remains at Large
(OCSO, Oct. 12, 2024)
Rochester Hills, MI- A suspect in Friday’s slaying of a 72-year- old Rochester Hills man was arrested today in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident this afternoon. No other details of the arrest are being released as Oakland County Sheriff’s Office detectives are actively seeking a second suspect in Friday’s death of Hussein Murray.
“We appreciate the public’s help with giving us tips and information related to the Rochester Hills homicide involving the fake DTE workers,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We can’t release a lot of information at this point, but we wanted to communicate that in conjunction with our great law enforcement partners, we have suspect number one, the Hispanic male shown in the video, in custody in Shreveport, Louisiana.
“We are communicating with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on formal charges and meanwhile, we continue to encourage the public to give us any information or tips about suspect number two.”
Sheriff’s detectives have been working around the clock to solve the homicide. Detectives were looking for two male suspects who posed as DTE employees to gain access to the home in an upscale Rochester Hills neighborhood on Friday.
The death happened shortly before noon Friday in a home in the 3700 block of Newcastle. Deputies were dispatched to the scene after the victim’s wife called 911. Upon their arrival, deputies found that she had been tied up and her hands were duct taped.
The wife told deputies she believed at the time that her husband may have been kidnapped. While checking the house to make sure it was safe, deputies found the husband’s body in the basement. The woman told deputies the two male suspects had come to the home Thursday night, claiming there was a gas leak, but they were not admitted to the home. When they arrived Friday, they were allowed in the home and her husband accompanied the two men into the basement, ostensibly to look for the leak.
Murray’s 72-year-old wife was briefly hospitalized after the incident and released. Detectives are investigating to determine if anything was taken from the home.
Anyone with information who may have seen the suspects or have any information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
