Cider and Donuts, Intricate Pumpkins, and Evening Hours all Part of Detroit Zoo’s Fall Activities
(Lilly Crossley, Oct. 8, 2024)
Royal Oak, MI – Throughout the month of October, the Detroit Zoo has many exciting fall-themed activities for all ages to enjoy. One main event is the Jack O’Lantern Journey, which is brand new this year.
After normal zoo hours, guests can enjoy viewing multiple themed pumpkin displays, some of which include Disney Princesses, Harry Potter, insects, zoo animals, and dinosaurs.
The pumpkins in the displays are very detailed and set up wonderfully with lights and, in some cases, smoke that creates an even spookier atmosphere in the dark.
Each display also includes music and sound effects that match the theme of the pumpkins, adding an extra touch to the delightful experience.
The Jack O’Lantern Journey also has live music and dance performances that guests can stop to enjoy during their walk. This year, the zoo has partnered with Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill, meaning guests can enjoy cider and donuts as they walk around and view the pumpkin displays and live music. The cider and donuts, as well as other delicious treats such as popcorn, caramel apples, and pies, are available at Blake’s Market, which are located in a few areas throughout the zoo.
The market also has a U-Pick Pumpkin Pitstop, where anyone can purchase a pumpkin to take home with them. Blake’s Market is available during the Jack O’Lantern Journey, as well as every Thursday through Sunday in October.
The Zoo Boo is also returning this year, where families can receive treats from stations placed throughout the zoo. Those participating in the Zoo Boo will also get to experience the Jack O’Lantern Journey and Blake’s Market, as well as character meet and greets.
Throughout the day, the zoo will also be doing fall-themed engagements with their animals, such as the Vultures, Great Apes, and River Otters.
The Fall Fest schedule online shows when these engagements will occur. The Detroit Zoo has a lot of fun planned in October for their guests, and the brand new Jack O’Lantern Journey is a wonderful experience that you won’t want to miss.
The Zoo Boo takes place from 5-9 pm on October 11 and 18, and from 2-9 pm on October 12, 13, 19, and 20. The Jack O’Lantern Journey is open from 5-10 pm on October 25, 26, and 27. To learn more about the Fall Fest and purchase tickets, visit here: https://detroitzoo.org/events/fall-fest/
