Auburn Hills Adds New Art to Downtown
(City of Auburn Hills, Sept 30, 204)
Auburn Hills, MI – Downtown Auburn Hills has new art. Stephanie Carroll, Economic Development Manager wrote about the new piece and being able to visit Detroit to learn more about the art. Here’s what was shared on the city’s blog:
On Saturday evening, September 21, Tom Tanghe, City Manager, and I had the privilege of attending the Detroit Design Center’s public art celebration at their gallery in Midtown Detroit. The evening showcased sculptures designed by Erik and Israel Nordin, which were commissioned by various communities and organizations.
Participants discussed how art has created more meaningful public spaces in their respective communities. Since each space is unique, the significance of public art can have different meanings. Art brings people together and provides social engagement and connection. Last week, we installed our fourth sculpture downtown. “Seeds of Innovation” represents Auburn Hills’ growth and transformation over the last forty years, evolving from a small, rural town into a dynamic high-tech hub of innovation. It was installed in the median at Parkways Boulevard and S. Squirrel Road.
We are grateful to Erik and Israel for their vision and creativity. As we continue to develop our spaces and make public art an integral part of our downtown growth, we invite you to experience it for yourself!
