21 Year Old Motorcyclist Dead After Crashing on Cooley Lake Road
(OCSO, Sept. 30, 2024)
Waterford, MI – A Waterford Township man died late Saturday, less than 24 hours after he was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in Commerce Township. Lucas Keith Horsch, 21, was operating a 2024 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Cooley Lake Road near Switzerland Street at 12:03 a.m. on Saturday. The motorcycle crossed the centerline, began to slide and left the roadway. Horsch fell from the motorcycle, which slid into the driveway of a private residence. Horsch, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital by paramedics from the Commerce Township Fire Department. He died Saturday evening from his injuries. An autopsy on Sunday revealed the Horsch was intoxicated at the time of the crash as he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 percent. A driver is considered intoxicated under Michigan law at 0.08 percent. Additionally, he did not have a motorcycle endorsement and crash investigators said a lack of experience may be a factor in the crash. The incident is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
