OC Restaurant Quest: Big Nick’s Coney Island in Pontiac

Pontiac, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with breakfast and lunch from Big Nick’s Coney Island in Pontiac.
This tiny restaurant has a strip of booths and a few bar seats, and also the option for carryout.
I had the Tony’s Omelette, stuffed with ham, bacon, sausage, green peppers, onions, and cheese smothered in sausage gravy, served with delicious shredded hash browns. Packed with protein this was a great start to the day.
I also ordered off the kid’s menu for a taste of nostalgia. The Mickey Mouse Pancakes were buttery, perfectly cooked with crispy edges, soft-middled pancakes. And they came with a drink, orange juice being an option.
For lunch I had the Grilled Chicken Hoagie. This filling sandwich had bites of grilled chicken smothered in melty Swiss cheese, grilled onions and diced green peppers. I also got a side of cole slaw to go along with it. The cole slaw is the crispy kind, soaked in the tartness of vinegar and spices.
Other breakfast options include French Toast, Waffles, and omelettes like the Veggie, the Corned Beef and Cheese, and the Greek. There’s even an omelette called The Mistake, which is stuffed with corned beef, onions, green pepper, and cheese. On the healthier side one could order oatmeal topped with fruit. For lunch Big Nick’s serves up the typical array of burgers and coney dogs, along with some classic dinners like Country Fried Steak, 10 oz New York Strip, and the 3 Piece Hand-Dipped Cod dinner.
Everything was delicious, with lots of food for a small price.
Big Nick’s is located at 670 Cesar E. Chavez Avenue in Pontiac. They don’t seem to have a website, but online ordering can be done through Doordash
