Downtown Auburn Hills Limits On-Street Parking to Two Hours from 8am to 6pm
(City of Auburn Hills, Aug. 22, 2024)
Auburn Hills, MI – The City of Auburn Hills has added parking regulations to Downtown. Here’s what they had to say in a recent blog post:
Last year, the Auburn Hills City Council contracted Rich & Associates, a professional parking consultant firm, to assess the City’s parking and provide tailored best practices to address our growing Downtown. Since the conclusion of this study, the City has actively pursued implementation of the recommendations supplied by Rich & Associates.
As a result of these recommendations and the City’s subsequent adoption, we are writing today to inform you of important changes to the parking regulations in Downtown Auburn Hills. These changes aim to improve the availability and turnover of parking spaces for the benefit of our business community and visitors.
Effective August 12, 2024, the City Council has adopted a Traffic Control Order limiting on-street parking in the Downtown area to a maximum of two hours between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM This new regulation addresses ongoing parking issues by ensuring parking spaces are available to more users throughout the day. The City Council is also expected to adopt ordinance language later this month prohibiting moving a vehicle from one on-street space to another to obtain an additional two-hour stay. The no parking 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM rule also remains in effect.
Long-term parking options remain available at the City’s parking deck, 3381 Auburn Road, or the City’s Primary Street parking lot, east of the parking deck. Unsigned spaces in both locations are available for public parking. Please do not park in signed or marked spaces, as these are reserved for private parking.
We will install appropriate signage to indicate the new parking restrictions. Once the signs are installed, the Auburn Hills Police Department will implement a 30-day educational period. During this period, the police will issue warnings to vehicles violating the new regulations. No parking tickets will be issued during this time; however, after the educational period concludes, enforcement will begin in earnest.
We believe these measures will enhance parking availability and turnover in our downtown area, benefiting both business owners and patrons. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes.
