(ROPD, Aug 10, 2024)
Royal Oak, MI – A 15-year-old juvenile suspect was taken into custody Monday afternoon following an investigation of a break-in at a cannabis store early Saturday morning.
On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Royal Oak Police received a call about a burglary alarm at the Gatsby Cannabis Company, located at 5130 Meijer Drive.
Officers found a smashed-out window on the east side of the building and observed that the business had been ransacked. On August 5, 2024, detectives from Royal Oak, assisted by members of the Troy Police Special Investigations Unit, conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s home in Royal Oak.
During the search, police recovered more than $100,000 worth of stolen marijuana and cannabis-related merchandise and took the juvenile suspect into custody.
Detectives also determined the juvenile is suspected of fleeing from a Royal Oak officer at high speeds prior to the cannabis store burglary after the officer terminated the pursuit. The juvenile is also suspected of being responsible for a home invasion on July 26, 2024.
“Our investigators quickly identified the suspect in this case and worked as a team to safely arrest this juvenile suspect and recover an astounding amount of evidence,” Chief Michael Moore.
The suspect has been charged with Breaking and Entering a Business, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and 3rd Degree Fleeing or Eluding Police, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison. He is currently being held at Oakland County Children’s Village.
