New Mural in Progress in Downtown Highland
(Oakland County Times, July 16, 2024)
Highland, MI – Downtown Highland continues to embrace both art and history with a new mural in the woks by Zach Curtis ARTwork.
The mural is being painted next to Veteran’s Park at 200 West Livingston Road, with the outline giving a sense of direction of the design. The location also gives a clue, as Downtown Highland centers around the place where a railroad depot connected them to the world.
This is the second mural in town created by Curtis. In 2022 he painted the “Greetings from Highland” mural which is a popular spot for selfies in the cozy downtown.
While people watch the progress of this masterpiece, they can also enjoy a series of reproduction of famous artworks which are placed around town as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside Out program.
Highland is also home to the Huron Valley Council for the Arts, which has regular exhibits and programs, as well as items from artists available for purchase. And each Saturday the community hosts a farmers’ market that has food vendors as well as booths from creative entrepreneurs.
