Motorcyclist Dies in Crash on Sashabaw Road

Independence Township, MI- A 42-year-old Waterford Township motorcyclist was fatally injured Saturday night when the motorcycle he was operating sideswiped one vehicle and then was struck by another vehicle in Independence Township.
The crash happened about 11 p.m. on Sashabaw Road near Fowler Drive.
The motorcyclist was operating a 2002 Honda CBR900 motorcycle south on Sashabaw when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and sideswiped a northbound 2018 Jeep Compass being driven by a 27-year-old Waterford Township resident.
After striking the Jeep Compass, the motorcyclist and the motorcycle went to the ground and were struck by a second northbound vehicle, a 2022 Ford Bronco being driven by a 47-year-old resident of Independence Township.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The drivers of the other vehicles were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.
An autopsy on the motorcyclist was to be performed at the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office. Alcohol use on behalf of the motorcyclist is unknown. Speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The name of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
