Goodwill Opens Madison Heights Retail Store, Grand Opening July 11
Goodwill of Greater Detroit is celebrating the opening of its first new retail store in eight years with a grand opening event on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
The ribbon-cutting and grand opening will take place at Goodwill of Greater Detroit’s new Madison Heights retail store, located at 31010 John R Road. Community members from across metro Detroit are invited to attend the event to enjoy exclusive sales on donated goods and raffles, as well as gifts for the first 50 attendees. The ribbon cutting will take place at 9:30 a.m. Doors open at 10 a.m.
“Families here in Madison Heights can take pride in knowing every purchase made at this new location will be a catalyst for impact that goes even deeper than finding a new pre-loved gem or keeping goods out of landfills,” said Dan Varner, president and CEO of Goodwill of Greater Detroit. “By shopping at this store, our community members are helping to provide free programs for thousands of metro Detroiters with employment barriers.”
Ninety-two cents of every dollar spent at Goodwill of Greater Detroit retail stores goes toward personal and professional development programs that provide hope and opportunity to those living with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, mental illness and more.
Goodwill of Greater Detroit’s retail stores provide employment opportunities to individuals experiencing these employment barriers, while other training programs, like The Detroit Career Center, teach work-related skills and provide resources to foster professional development and job retention. Another program, the Skilled Trades Academy, offers hands-on training to help residents pursue careers in fields such as welding and electric vehicle supply equipment repair.
In 2023, Goodwill of Greater Detroit served more than 17,000 individuals with employment barriers with an 82% job placement rate, 94% job retention rate and average starting salary of $18.19/hour.
“This new Madison Heights location will allow Goodwill of Greater Detroit to introduce the convenience, affordability, environmental and personal value of shopping secondhand to an entire new community,” said Jeff Ukrainec, vice president of Donated Goods Retail at Goodwill of Greater Detroit. “What’s more, this expansion will have a profound impact upon the mission programs our retail stores fuel, empowering us to change the lives of even more chronically underemployed or unemployed Detroiters who need our support the most.”
Goodwill of Greater Detroit is now accepting donations at the Madison Heights location.
In addition to Madison Heights, Goodwill of Greater Detroit operates retail locations in Canton, Commerce, Dearborn, Livonia, Woodhaven and Ypsilanti. A new store at 28901 Greenfield Road in Southfield will open later this year.
