Ferndale Hosting Meetings About Martin Road Park Recreation Facility June 27 and Aug 8
(Oakland County Times, June 20, 2024)
Ferndale, MI – The City of Ferndale is continuing with public meetings to suss out plans for a recreation building at Martin Road Park. The first meeting, held June 4, had residents discussing ideas for the building including programs, uses, and potential design features.
The meeting also included information about the funding of the recreation building, as well as limitations on what features existing grant money can be used for. In short, the city is asking for a Headlee override to help fund this and other building needs. Because of grant limitations, the building must be focused on supporting outdoor recreation opportunities.
Follow up meetings are scheduled to further work though ideas and come up with a proposal for the building.
Next is June 27, with the event post stating “What would you want to see in a new recreation facility? The conversation is happening right now… join us!
“The Parks and Recreation Department has secured more than $2 million in grant funding towards a future recreation facility at Martin Road Park. This could be an incredible opportunity to provide accessible programming, activities, and community space in a sustainable facility owned by the City.
“While certainly not a done deal–additional funding sources are necessary–the time to discuss is NOW. What would you want a rec facility to look like? What offerings would you want to see? Which kinds of programs and activities would you like to see supported? No decisions have yet been made, and the conversation is happening now–so come out and lend your voice!
“Please feel free to bring kids and families.”
The meeting takes place at the curling club at 1615 E Lewiston Ave, at Martin Road Park.
Another meeting is expected Aug 8, with details to be announced.
