Gas Station Canopy Collapses, Catches Fire in Farmington Hills
(Oakland County Times, June 5, 2024)
Farmington Hills, MI – As a thunderstorm rolled through the area, the high winds likely caused the canopy over a gas station to collapse on top of vehicles at the station, also causing a fire.
The City of Farmington Hills put out an alert Wednesday afternoon, stating “Please stay away from the area of 10 Mile and Middlebelt Roads, due to an ongoing investigation and unstable structure.
“At approximately 3:45 p.m., the Farmington Hills Fire Department was called to 10 Mile and Middlebelt Roads for the collapse of a gas station canopy with multiple vehicles under it. While all five fire stations were en route, crews were notified that a portion of the canopy and one gas pump were on fire.
“Upon arrival, it was determined that everyone safely escaped, and crews extinguished the fire within approximately 10 minutes. Gas station employees were quick to initiate the station’s emergency shut off.
