39 Years Ago Cindy Louise Moore Disappeared. Oakland County Sheriff Asks Public Again for Answers
(OSCO, May 27, 2024)
Troy, MI- It was 11 p.m. on a Thursday at the U.S. Postal Service in Troy. Employee Cindy Louise Moore had just ended her shift and was out the door.
She was headed to Warren where her estranged husband William Moore lived to pick up their 2-year-old son and then go to Independence Township where she was staying with her parents.
At least that was her plan. Something appears to have gone terribly wrong. She never picked up her son. She never saw her parents. In fact, she hasn’t been heard from since.
May 23 was the 39th anniversary of Moore’s disappearance.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard believes that someone, somewhere may know what happened to Moore. The Cold Case Unit for the Sheriff’s Office has been working on the case in hopes that publicity surrounding her disappearance may generate information that can explain just what happened to the 28-year-old mother.
“Sometimes, after years have passed, people that had information or knowledge are more willing to share and come forward,” Bouchard said. “Often times the guilt has been weighing on them or the fear has diminished. Please help us give this family some closure. Contact us If you have any information that would be helpful.”
Moore’s case is officially classified as “Endangered Missing.”
The last known sighting of her was by a coworker who saw her driving her silver 1984 Ford Tempo near the intersection of 14 Mile Road and Interstate 75 about 15 minutes after she left work on May 23, 1985.
A week after she went missing, her car was found on May 30, 1985. It was backed into a parking space in front of room number 153 of the Red Roof Inn at 14 Mile Road and John R in Madison Heights. Police determined the car had been there since the day after she was last seen.
The car was locked, the keys were missing, and there was no evidence of a struggle.
Moore was living with her parents at the time and had made a down payment on a mobile home in Auburn Hills. She was planning to move there with her son. All her clothes were left behind, and her bank account hasn’t been touched since her disappearance.
The husband was considered a suspect in his estranged wife’s disappearance. He admitted assaulting her during an argument and once grabbed her by the throat, though was never arrested or charged.
A pool at the family home in Warren was filled in shortly after she went missing. Police dug up the pool and searched the backyard, but no body was found. Detectives say that foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
