Baby Raccoon Rescues in Highland Twp and White Lake
(Oakland County Times, May 19, 2024)
Highland Township, White Lake, MI – People love animal stories, and there were two last week in Western Oakland County.
In Highland, firefighters were called to a tree where a group of baby raccoons were alone in a hole in the tree after their mother had been struck by a vehicle. Teaming up with Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority, crews were able to use a ladder truck to access the babies and bring them to the safety of an animal rehabber.
A little bit bigger of a kit was found in White Lake, trying to make friends with visitors at the Shell gas station.
Officer DiClaudio came to the rescue, and has been dubbed “The racoon whisperer” by fellow officers after the young raccoon climbed on DiClaudio’s shoulders while waiting for a licened DNR rehabber to transport it to a safer place.
