OC Restaurant Quest: Betty Ross II in Madison Heights
(Crystal A. Proxmire, orig. May 11, 2024)
Madison Heights, MI – With one row of booths and one row of counter seating, Betty Ross II in Madison Heights is often filled with regular customers – some who have been enjoying the diner’s food since they opened 49 years ago.
As part of my quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County, I visited recently for lunch. The triple decker club sandwich caught my eye, to go along with the classic atmosphere which presumably has not changed much over the decades.
Served on perfectly browned toast layered with chunky bites of turkey, crispy flavorful strips of bacon, hearty slices of tomato, simply creamy and tangy mayonnaise, and leaves of lettuce held together with frilly toothpicks, this beautiful creation was a perfect choice for my review. I ordered it with fries, which were thick-cut and perfectly crispy, as well as a cup of chili topped with onions and shredded cheese.
Betty Ross boasts of “finer dining,” taking pride in the home-cooked meals they serve. Breakfast is served all day, including a nice selection of omelettes and other meals with eggs, hash browns, and meats. They are known for their thick-cut baked ham. And there are pancakes and French toast for those who like a sweeter start to their day. For lunch and dinner there are classic diner favorites like burgers, coneys, and pita sandwiches. There are also “down home cookin'” dinners like stuffed cabbage, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, and scalloped potatoes and ham. Chicken parmsean, spaghetti, and lasagna are available for those who like “a little bit of Italy.” And “from the sea” there are fish and chips as well as a 21 piece shrimp dinner.
Betty Ross II is located at 28726 John R in Madison Heights. They do not have a website, but don’t be shy about stopping in and giving them a try.
