OC Restaurant Quest: Brunch at Public House in Downtown Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 20, 2024)
Ferndale, MI – Brunch only happens two days a week at Public House, bringing people in to the cozy Downtown Ferndale space for a tasty variety of breakfast/lunch options only Saturdays and Sundays.
A friend and I enjoyed a recent visit, where he went with a savory selection and I went for one that was sweet.
He had the Pastrami Hash. With nice thick cubes of Wagyu Pastrami, freshly grilled peppers and onions, fingerling potatoes, mornay sauce and sunny side up egg, this was a well-rounded breakfast choice. He also had the 9 Mile Mule, made with Valentine Vodka, blackberry puree, lime juice, and Fever Tree Ginger Beer in a copper mug.
I opted for the Peach Cobbler French Toast, made with cinnamon bread topped with caramelized peaches and apples, granola, and vanilla bean whipped cream. Obviously this was a ridiculously sweet way to start the day. To drink I had the Bellini – peach vodka, champagne, and peach nectar.
The Public House menu also includes steak & eggs, lobster Benedict, chilaquiles, chicken and waffles, and smash burgers. Flipping the menu over has a whole new set of options, this time featuring vegan choices. Among them are mushroom hash, vegan sausage scramble, “chik’n & waffle, cheezy grits, side of “bakon,”, and more. There is even vegan carrot cake. The drink menu also has more impressive selections, including the Camilla which is a mango habanero margarita made with Tanteo Habanero Tequila, and the Lucy made with Traverse City Bourbon, peach, mint, limoncello, and orange bitters. There are mocktail choices as well.
Public House is open for dinnertime hours each day except Monday, with items that include corned beef egg rolls, Thai chicken lettuce wrap, glazed salmon, and sandwiches like the hot honey chicken and the lobster roll.
