Don Loomis Selected for Royal Oak High School Principal

Royal Oak, MI – Royal Oak Schools is excited to announce the selection of a new principal for Royal Oak High School. We are pleased to share that Mr. Don Loomis has been named following a rigorous interview process. Mr. Loomis is excited about this opportunity to lead Royal Oak High School and join the district administrative team.
Mr. Loomis has a wide range of experience as a teacher and leader, most recently as an administrator in the Wayne-Westland Public Schools. He has earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a History Minor from Oakland University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
“I am confident Mr. Loomis will provide strong, caring leadership for ROHS’s students, families, and staff,” said Superintendent Mary Beth Fitzpatrick. “Mr. Loomis’s enthusiasm and knowledge were highly regarded throughout the search process.”
Loomis said he is excited to be selected as the next principal of Royal Oak High School and feels his skill set and past experiences will be a great fit for the school community. “As I was looking into the district, I really liked the future direction and the strategic plan supporting that direction, as well as the multitude of programs to help all students succeed, regardless of their path,” Loomis said. “I’m looking forward to meeting students and families and learning about their experiences of the past and hopes for the future.”
Mrs. Angela Ashburn will remain the high school’s interim principal through the end of this school year. The recommendation to appoint Mr. Loomis will be presented to the Board of Education in a special meeting and workshop on April 25, 2024, at 5:45 PM. Pending formal board approval that evening, Mr. Loomis will assume his duties on July 1, 2024.
